IC info

Name: Preston Northwest
Age: 45
Canon:Gravity Falls
Alignment: Lawful* Evil

*I'm above the law and can work it like a fine oiled machine

Canon-Point: Tbh I never watched past the unicorn episode, so, at the Last Mabelcorn.

Character History: Preston was born into the wealthy Northwest family. It can be assumed that Preston likely underwent similar abuse that he would later inflict on his daughter. However, he would also likely be trusted with far more knowledge of the family's nefarious practices than Pacifica ever was. Journal 3, which (I believe?) places Preston at teen years, demonstrates his awareness of the Lumberjack Incident as he forces Stanford Pines out of his house.

The rest of life follows.

Character Personality: To talk about Preston Northwest, we need to discuss Ancient Rome- no I'm kidding. But really, Preston Northwest is what happens if you gave Jiminy Cricket too much money and removed every single one of his morals.

Preston Northwest is, in simple terms, an absolute fuckface. He was born into wealth and has never known any other kind of life. He wakes up every morning, looks at his servants and says "Little fool. Should have been born rich." He's been given power every second of every day, treated like a god, and trained to betray everyone if they don't serve his interests.

While no master of manipulation, he's a conversational savant. Each word used to butter up or dress down his verbal opponent in subtle ways. He's obsessed with PR, trying to look decent and presentable at all times. He only lets his guard down when the jig is up and, most importantly, he's completely alone with the person he wants to rant at. Utterly contemptuous towards anyone poorer than him, he's crafted an entire, shallow life in order to cultivate a sense of superiority towards "the rabble". Everything around him speaks more and more about his arrogance. Why would he stay in a podunk town like Gravity Falls if it wasn't to feel special and superior every goddamn day of his life? Why would he keep all those paintings of Northwest crimes, which are damning evidence and a PR disaster for him, if he didn't secretly adore to look at the way his family has tricked riff-raff? But he must present a friendly facade and everyone, Pacifica included, is a tool to make sure that imaginary Northwest honor is believed.

I do believe he suffered similar abuses to Pacifica as a child, since the Nortwest family tree is exceedingly terrible. I also believe he was never goddamn pavloved like a dog. That was his own invention. Because all Preston cares about is control and power. The only remnants of childhood abuse is probably something he's embraced as a good thing: an utter obsession with everything presented in the exact right way. The rules of high society are the only real laws he follows and he gets anxious and panicky at the mere thought of someone putting down a fork in the wrong place. In the face of "riff-raff" descending on his house, his first priority is the fact someone misplaced a fork. He practically screams it! And if that gives him a panic attack, well, that sucks yeah. But the dude pavloved his daughter. This monster should never be pitied.

Sidebar, can we talk about how the secret painting room shows this big family line of Northwest criminals but like. Preston seems to be the only Northwest left until Pacifica? No siblings or cousins? I mean, they could just be off-screen. Or he murdered them for the fortune. That's stupid and I'll never bring it up but like. WHAT IF THO.

Abilities: M-money???

Motives: Money, pride, the slightest chance of advancement. He will gladly betray anyone and anything at the chance of improving his lot in life.

Regains:
- a rolled up painting
- a bell
- Preston's memory tube, from the society of the blind eye
- a broken mirror, no longer containing a lumberjack ghost

Third Person Sample: Let's do this

Would you be like your character to have a plot-intensive role?: Sure, as long as he gets to die at some point
Would you like to volunteer to have your character be involved in a case?: Please murder Preston as soon as possible.
Do you have any other notes/concerns for your character that you'd like to mention here?: Kind of a crazy idea:
what if, at some point, we fucking murder Preston Fuckface Northwest
